Banana Pudding number 1

I wanted to try making banana pudding ice cream, but I didn’t really see any recipes that looked like what I wanted, so this was an experiment. I used the Food Network Philly base again, and chilled the ice cream maker and base for 15 minutes before making the ice cream.

Ingredients:

3/4 cup granulated sugar

2 cups heavy cream

1 cup whole milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract (I might have accidentally used 1 tablespoon)

3 ripe bananas

Cinnamon

Nilla wafers, about 1/2 a box

First, I crumbled and froze the Nilla wafers. I think bigger chunks are nicer than crumbs.

I mashed 3 ripe bananas and sprinked cinnamon on top. I added the ice cream base ingredients to the banana mix, stirred, and chilled it. I added the Nilla wafers to the ice cream when it was near the end of its cycle.

This made a huge amount of ice cream. It almost overfilled my machine, which has a 2.1-quart capacity. On the other hand, it had a really nice banana flavor, so I wouldn’t want to cut the amount of bananas. I might just cut the whole recipe in half or 2/3 if I didn’t want to make so much.

The banana flavor is great and the wafers are great, but I’m not getting banana pudding yet. The whipped cream is missing. Still need to work on this. I’d give it a B, since it has a really nice flavor and texture, but didn’t deliver on the dream yet.
